Shadow Self Portraits

Taken unknown
Rescued 2007-
Work in progress

Many photographers have used their shadow or their reflection to question the nature of self-portraiture including Lee Friedlander and Ilse Bing. The found snapshots in this collection, however, depict the shadow of the image-maker by accident...or do they?

Was the photographer aware that he or she would be included in the image? How does the shadow add or detract from the photograph, if at all?

These snapshots are not accidents – someone with a camera meant to make them – but it is unclear how much attention was paid to the peripheral content of the scene.
